British Bandsman Award for Brass in Concert

The revitalised Brass in Concert contest gains prestigious award.

Brass in Concert

The organisers of the revitalised Brass in Concert Championships, Paul and Jacqueline Beere and David Bennett have been announced as the 2007 recipients of the prestigious British Bandsman Award.

Bold decision

Following the unprecedented success of the 2006 event BB Editor Kenneth Crookston said: “The bold decision taken by the Beere’s and David Bennett to relocate what could have been viewed by some as an ailing event in a cold and draughty leisure center to one of the finest concert halls in the UK, has not only injected new life in the Championship, but also caused some of our finest bands to reappraise their approach to the concept of ‘entertainment’."

Deserved congratulations

They are worthy winners of our Award and deserve the congratulations of all lovers of brass bandsBritish Bandsman Editor Kenneth Crookston

He went on to add: "The move to the Sage has been a compete success, with the team’s efforts securing the 30 year old events long term future and encouraging the growth of brass bands in the area through the recently introduced Focus on Brass and Percussion. They are worthy winners of our Award and deserve the congratulations of all lovers of brass bands.”

In response David Bennett said: “It’s amazing to think that it’s now in such a fabulous venue, but the journey could only have been made possible with the help of the hundreds of bands people that have helped over the years.”
