Sellers close up after hectic Christmas schedule

Sellers International Band has finally shut the bandroom doors for the year after a hectic Christmas finale.

Sellers International

A recent lunchtime concert on Monday 18th December at a packed Leeds Town Hall brought another busy Christmas schedule for the Sellers International Band to a close.

A hectic weekend prior to that had seen an engagement at Huddersfield Parish Church on the 15th, a concert given to a 750 strong audience at Halifax Parish Church for the Overgate Hospice on the 16th and the annual Sellers Charity Concert (this year raising money for 'Music and the Deaf') at St Pauls, the concert hall of the University of Huddersfield, on the 17th.

Band presentations

At the St Pauls concert a number of presentations were also made to people who have played a significant role in the life of the band over the past year.

The annual 'Bandsperson of the Year' award this year went to Principal Euphonium, Mark Bousie. In making the award, Musical Director Philip McCann spoke warmly of Mark's loyalty and commitment to Sellers (he has been with the band for over 10 years now), his work as conductor of the successful youth band and the reliabilty of his performances on the contest and concert stage.

Presentations were also made to hard working working librarian and 2nd Euphonium player, Toni Howden, Mrs Carol Armitage, wife of Sellers Sponsor and President, David Armitage, who organised the concert, and Mike Meadmore, compere for the evening and a former chairman of the band. Philip also paid tribute to David Armitage and Tim Sugden of the Sellers Group for their continued support of the band. In recent times, where bands of all levels across the country have struggled with loss of sponsorships, Sellers is a perhaps seen as a beacon of how a band, company and local community can work successfully in tandem.

Celebrating 20 years

Earlier in December ,Sellers performed their annual Christmas concert at the intimate setting of the Parish Church of the village of Lepton, a joint concert with the Sellers Youth Band and local primary school choirs at Huddersfield Town Hall (proceeds going to the funding of Holmfirth's Christmas Lights) and a very well recieved performance at Morley Town Hall as part of the Leeds Leisure Services Brass Band concert series.
