Sellers Youth Band's Christmas Crackers

Just as their senior band have been busy over Christmas, so too have Sellers youngsters.

Sellers International

The culmination of the Sellers International Youth Band's busy Christmas period were two fantastic concerts at Huddersfield Town Hall, where they appeared alongside ex-Eurovision winner Dana, as guests of Huddersfield Methodist Choir, and at Holmfirth Civic Hall, where they appeared alongside the outstanding Honley Male Voice Choir.

The band's performances, which included popular Christmas classics and items from their current repertoire, drew a truly warm and enthusiastic response from the packed audiences at both concerts.

Sellers Youth Band's Christmas diary was a little extended this year, with a performance given to a crowd of over 10,000 on Boxing day at the Galpharm Stadium, home of Huddersfield Town football club during their League 2 clash with Tranmere Rovers4BR

Sellers Youth Band told 4BR that they would like to thank Craig Ratcliffe, Musical Director of the Tewitt Youth Band who took the baton for the concerts in the absence of Mark Bousie, who was otherwise engaged, performing with Sellers International Band.

Earlier in the month, the band performed alongside the Sellers International Band and choirs made up from local primary schools at a fund raising concert for the Holmfirth Christmas lights in Huddersfield Town Hall.

Audience of 10,000

Sellers Youth Band's Christmas diary was a little extended this year, with a performance given to a crowd of over 10,000 on Boxing day at the Galpharm Stadium, home of Huddersfield Town football club during their League 2 clash with Tranmere Rovers. The band performed both prior to the match and at the half time interval.

Sellers Youth's festive season has also seen them entertaining the people of Huddersfield, with many performances at shopping centres, supermarkets and local pubs.

Successful year

The band have had a successful year, which has included many highlights; alongside their concert appearances, the band were delighted to be awarded the prize for the 'Most Improved Band' at the National Youth Championships last April, 'Best Youth Band' at the Brighouse Contest in July and 3rd place at the Pontins British Open Youth Championships in September.

Great achievements

The band are also extremely proud of the achievements of a number of its players, who are also members of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, the National Childrens Band of Great Britain, the National Children's Orchestra and the newly formed Yorkshire Youth Band.

2006 has also been a great year for the band's Principal Cornet, 15 year old Joe Murray, who was part of Grimethorpe Colliery Band's winning team at the National Championships back in October.

The band are now setting their sights firmly on their first major performance of 2007 at the Action Research UK Youth Entertainment Festival to be held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool on Sunday 11th February.
