2NUR-FM Awards

After a quarter of a century of broadcasting and numerous requests from listeners over the years, Brass Encounters has instigated "The Brass Encounters 2NUR-FM CD of the Year Awards".

The awards are to be yearly and based on CD recordings featured on the programme throughout the year under several categories. Each new recording featured during the year will be considered for an award with the winners decided by mid-January the following year and announced by February.

It is hoped that bands will take the opportunity to be featured on a programme that is broadcast world wide 24 hours and the award winners will know that a year of consideration has gone into presenting the awards. They are mostly awarded based on listener responses to their music having been featured on the programme.

2005 awards are being finalised now with winners to be announced soon. Individual winning bands will be personally contacted prior to full announcements being made public.

Categories are:

MOST REQUESTED
The recording, having been featured on the programme, that receives the largest number of requests, be it for replays, details, purchasing information or combination of such for the year.

BEST THEME CD
The recording, having been featured on the programme, considered to have followed the given theme of the release from start to completion in a manner thought to do justice to the theme, and deemed to be the outstanding theme release/presentation for the year.

SOLOIST CD OF THE YEAR
The recording that has as its main feature solos from a recognised brass band solo instrument, deemed to be the outstanding solo release for that year. Taking into consideration: requests for replays or details from the listening public, musical content and overall presentation.

CD OF THE YEAR
The recording featured on the programme considered to be an outstanding release for the year. Taking into consideration: musical content, overall presentation and listener response. A recording that may be considered a credit to the brass band movement.

To be in the running for consideration the recording needs to:
* Be featured on the programme within the calendar year of the present awards
* Satisfy the requirements for one of the listed categories
* Be a release by a brass band in the traditional sense of brass band instrumentation
* A CD that is available for general purchase and not an obscure release.

Criteria:
* A release by a band of any playing level/grade will be considered
* Brass band releases from any country can be considered
* Recordings that satisfy more than one category will be considered for each relevant award(s)
* A recording maybe capable of receiving more than one individual award.

The right not to present an award in a particular category is reserved, if it is deemed that no release has achieved the status to warrant presentation of such for that year. Should more than one CD warrant presentation of an award in the same category, a further award may be presented but will be restricted to not more than 2 awards in the same category for that year.
