Rhythm and Brass

The Gala Concert for the Nationals this year is to be "An International Spectacular of Entertainment".

Simone Rebello

 

The main feature will be Simone Rebello, a world class percussionist.

A graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music, Simone has embarked on a solo career which has taken her around the world with concerto appearances, solo recitals, master classes and appearances on National and International TV and radio. She has recorded several CDs and is in high demand as a soloist with brass bands, wind ensembles and symphony orchestras. She continues to win awards such as the 1998 Cosmopolitan/House of Fraser Woman of the Year in the Arts.

Simone regularly performs with the internationally renowned BackBeat Percussion Quartet of which she is a founder member. The group tours extensively in Japan and America and have also given concerts in Zimbabwe, the Cayman Islands and throughout Europe. In addition to recording 2 CDs and numerous international TV and radio broadcasts the group has won several competitions. The group has commissioned several new works and its 2002 Proms debut was broadcast live on BBC television.

In 1997 Simone formed Equivox with leading saxophonist Rob Buckland and this contemporary music group record and perform Internationally. They have commissioned several new works and are releasing their latest CD in 2005. Simone collaborates with various musicians on projects and continues to work as a solo recitalist with pianist/organist Julian Wilkins.

She is frequently asked to adjudicate at National and International brass and wind band competitions, percussion festivals and events for BBC Radio, and speaks regularly at events concerning performance skills, the development of concerts and workshops for children and general percussion topics.

Simone Rebello is a solo artist and endorsee for Yamaha- Kemble UK.

The Gala Concert will also feature three brass bands:

Brisbane Excelsior from Australia is the 2005 Champion Band of Australia. This band, under the musical direction of Howard Taylor, is arguably one of the leading brass bands in the Southern Hemisphere.

Dalewool Auckland Brass from New Zealand has over the past eighty-six years achieved National and International acclaim. During the 90s they earned the reputation of New Zealand's leading band of the decade. They will be conducted by Nigel Weeks.

Osaka Harmony Brass, direct from Japan, was formed in 2000 under the musical direction of Mr. Atsuhiko Okamoto. This relatively young band are already making an impact on the International circuit.

The Corsham Band

November 21 • With promotion to the 2nd Section from January 2018 the band are now looking for an experienced Front Row Cornet Player to join our friendly and enthusiastic team.

November 20 • Despite winning the 2nd section at the GBBA contest we still need a Bb BASS to complete our line up. Good but realistic book of concerts and concerts planned.. We have well attended rehearsals on a Wednesday in our own bandroom.


Hucknall & Linby Brass

November 20 • Hucknall and Linby Band - 2nd section- Require a front row cornet player. We rehearse Thursdays 7.30 -9.30 in Hucknall, Nottingham. With great transport links to the city centre and the universities.
