With results in decline and players dwindling over the past years, this Christmas has seen a proud Musical Director, Mr Gary Davies and the band admire their silverware in a sell out Christmas Concert held in the Rhondda Valleys.
On Friday 1st December the Tylorstown Band Arriva Trains Wales teamed up with a local school and the Internationally renowned Penderys Male Voice Choir for a Christmas Celebration. However, it was not the only celebration for the rejuvenated Tylorstown Band.
Good year
Having started the year with a respectable 7th position in the Second Section of Butlins Mineworkers Championships, the band then qualified for the Harrogate Lower Section Final (Section 2) in Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall. The next successes came back to back having won the Inaugural Entertainments Contest at Pontyberem followed by winning the National Eisteddfod of Wales Second Section in July and August respectively –not to mention winning the best Euphonium award in Weston Super Mare in between.
In Addition, Tylorstown have also had the unenviable task of jumping from National Section Two to the Championship Section in Wales. A task that saw them pick up the Championship Section Runners up trophy in Treorchy last month. All of which has resulted in a new trophy cabinet, which now proudly sits in the bandroom.
Thanks for the hard work
The band would like to thank its players for their hard work throughout the year, and would especially like to acknowledge the players who have joined its ranks during the year, player’s who have brought a wealth of experience to the band.
Finally, the Band would also like to thank Gary Davies for all the hard work he has put in throughout 2006. The band hopes that with the continued collaboration with Musical Director, Gary Davies it can improve again in 2007 and hopes for another successful year.
