Busy time for Torbay

The Christmas season has been a busy one for Torbay.

Christmas always comes early for the members of Torbay Brass Band due to their starting carol playing when the rest of the banding world is just coming back off its summer holidays. December has seen the band playing at the first ever community carol concert in Babbacombe, Torquay, organised by the local Rotary club.

A full house in the parish church saw the band joining forces with a local school choir, and a female barber’s shop choir. The band also participated at the 20th anniversary of the Torbay Civic Concert before a full house of some eleven hundred people.

Some of the music played at these concerts and another private carol concert included A Christmas Intrada, Christmas Joy, Caribbean Christmas, Diversions on the Coventry Carol, plus some of the other usual Christmas favourites.

Certainly, Father Christmas brought the band an early Christmas present at the end of the Civic Carol Concert in the shape of a player just moved to the area that expressed a desire to return to playing with a band and wondered if they would be interested. Suffice to say the young man has already played with the band and is looking forward to the start of rehearsals in the New Year.

Torbay Brass Band wishes everyone connected with banding a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
