Hitchin up the funds

The Hitchin Band recently did their bit for a fantastic cause by helping to raise £5000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

On Monday 18th December, Hitchin Band took part in an annual concert to raise funds for Hertfordshire Macmillan Cancer Support.

The concert entitled, “A Family Celebration of Christmas” has been going for 8 years with the band taking part for the last 4 years. Also taking part were Hertfordshire Constabulary Choir, organist Derek Longman, Assistant Director of Music at Haileybury College and Richard Whitmore (former BBC Newsreader).

The evening was once again a resounding success with just under £5000 being raised allowing Macmillan to continue their important work in HertfordshireHitchin Band

The concert, held in Haileybury Chapel (part of Haileybury College), featured light hearted Christmas readings and music to a large audience and is aimed at kick-starting that Christmas Spirit!

Resounding success

During the main performance, the band played for some of the carols as well as performing a Christmas medley “The Magic of Christmas” and “Rudolph around the World” (which is a set of variations on the “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” theme as might be heard in countries such as Japan, Switzerland and Russia).

Following this, the band played for the after concert refreshments providing further Christmas entertainment.

The evening was once again a resounding success with just under £5000 being raised allowing Macmillan to continue their important work in Hertfordshire.
