Annus Fantasticus for Baker

Composer Leigh Baker couldn't have asked for more after a year of musical delights in 2007.

Leigh Baker, Composer in Residence and solo baritone at Brighouse and Rastrick Band is absolutely delighted with the impact he has made through his music in 2007.

After winning the 'Best New Arrangement or Composition Award' at Brass in Concert (for the second year running) he was delighted to be nominated as a finalist in the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year awards.

Roman Triptych

Leigh was also delighted with the response to “Roman Triptych” at the 4th Section Finals in Harrogate. He would like to thank the many players, conductors, adjudicators and audience members for the fantastic feedback he has received. Leigh was also very pleased to receive plaudits from large numbers of people not necessarily connected with the contest.

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and for the support of the Brighouse and Rastrick band who are such an important part of my musical lifeLeigh Baker

Leigh was particularly honoured to be nominated by 4BR in two categories in the 4BR Awards.

Leigh told 4BR: "To be “pipped at the post” in the “Best Newcomer” category by the Proms Brass Day was a real honour and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and for the support of the Brighouse and Rastrick band who are such an important part of my musical life."

New works

Leigh is currently busy working on some new arrangements for a band to use at the Butlins Contest and has some more exciting new pieces for Brighouse on the drawing board.

David Childs has also recorded a new Baker arrangement on his new solo CD 'Celtic Charm' and Michael Howley’s forthcoming solo CD also includes one of Leigh’s new arrangements. He is also particularly keen to compose another Test Piece this year!
