All Go for The Saints

St Kilda Brass has 4 reps in the National Youth Band, and plans are well underway to get the band to the Gold Coast in October for the Australasian Open.

St Kilda

St Kilda Brass is delighted to announce that 4 of its current members have been selected to represent New Zealand as part of the 2008 National Youth Brass Band.

Stacey Ward, Ian O’Malley, Bridget Walker and Jacob McQuarrie were among a vast number of players throughout the country that were auditioned by Musical Director Kevin Moseley in October and have been named as part of the 38 strong team that will tour from Wanganui to Wellington between 24th & 27th January.

Stacey Ward will take her place on the Solo Cornet bench, Bridget Walker on 2nd Horn, Ian O’Malley as Principal Euphonium and Jacob McQuarrie in the Percussion section.

Further good news for the band comes as 3 other players selected for the National Youth Brass Band in 2008 will be joining St Kilda at the start of the year which will ensure that the Saints are the most well represented Brass Band in New Zealand.

‘I am delighted with the success of our young players; they work hard and deserve every success they get. I am also pleased to welcome our new players which will compliment an already strong line up at St Kilda and I’m sure will enhance the bands performances on both the concert and contest platform in 2008.’

Australasian Open

This contest [Australasian Open] is a wonderful concept and will become the most sought after title in the Southern Hemisphere banding scene...and am delighted with the Saints intention of attending.Steve Miles, MD, St Kilda Brass

These new signings plus several others will have a major impact on the band as it prepares to make the trip to Australia in October; after agreeing in principle, to accept an invitation to compete in the inaugural Australasian Open Brass Band Championship.

‘This contest [Australasian Open] is a wonderful concept and will become the most sought after title in the Southern Hemisphere banding scene. I am thrilled for the band to have received the invitation and am delighted with the Saints intention of attending. This event will surely be the greatest that has ever been seen in this part of the world.’

Exciting plans are also in place for the 2008 St Kilda Brass subscription concert series, details of which will be released early in the New Year.
