4BR has been informed that the partnership between the Redbridge Band and its Musical Director Melvin White has come to an end after nine years.

The decision has also meant that the band has pulled out of the forthcoming Bultins Mineworkers Contest.

The Press Release reads as follows:

"It is with great regret that Redbridge Brass announce their withdrawal from the forthcoming Butlins Contest. This is following the sudden departure of musical director Melvin White and his wife Susan, the band’s solo trombonist, following the band's final engagement of 2007 on Sunday, 16th December"

Unfortunately, due to Melvin’s departure, the band finds itself in a very different situation to the one it thought it would be in at this pointSecretary Tim Morgan

Huge disappointment

Meanwhile, Band secretary Tim Morgan told 4BR: "Unfortunately, due to Melvin’s departure, the band finds itself in a very different situation to the one it thought it would be in at this point. Having to withdraw from Butlins is a huge disappointment to the band as we have supported this exciting new venture every year since its inception in 2005 and we apologise unreservedly to the organisers of the contest for the difficult situation this puts them in."

Thanks

He added: "However, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Melvin and Su for all the hard work they have put in to the band over the last 9 years.

The band has achieved unparalleled success under Melvin’s direction and we wish them both every good wish for the future. We are looking forward to the challenges that 2008 will bring us, including the opportunity to defend our title and make it six wins out of seven at the forthcoming regional contest in March."
