Christmas Countdown — 4 days to go

Just time for 4BR to send Santa our Christmas list for 2008...

Dear Santa:

These are a few things we would like to see in our stockings this Christmas morning. We’ve been good boys all year—promise.

1. An increased entry list for all the Area contests in 2008. Last year it shrunk to just over 500 and it would be nice to see a few more bands in the mix come March.

2. A proposal to scrap closed adjudication in the Fourth Section to start with and opt for a relaxation of rules to encourage more competing bands at the bottom of the contesting ladder. (You do it in your home country Santa so please bring it here)

3. The judges to speak at all contests prior to results next year, so that they can explain to the paying public just how and why they picked the bands they did.

4. Harrogate to become a nicer place to hold a brass band contest.

5. Cornet players to get a reality check and forget about trying to think they can pay a trumpet like Wynton Marsalis at entertainment contests.

6. Ban directional playing, or standing where not marked.

7. Conductors to stop milking applause by getting everyone plus the tea lady to take a bow after a performance.

8. No cheating or jumping the queue at Whit Friday.

9. Accurate re-appraisal of entertainment marks at the Action Research Youth Contest.

10. No Norwegian equivalent of the Whistler at the European Gala Concert in Stavanger in 2008.

Anything else would be a bonus….
