Dyke awards to Curtin and Marshall

Black Dyke has been giving out a few awards of its own — with trophies for Bandsman of the Year and Pondasher of the Year.

cURTIN AND mARSHALL

The 2014 ‘Double Champions’, Black Dyke, have been giving out a few prizes of their own recently, with the presentation of their ‘Bandsman of the Year’ and ‘Pondasher’ awards at Huddersfield Town Hall.

A delighted solo euphonium, Gary Curtin was the recipient of the ‘Bandsman of the Year’ trophy, with principal cornet, Richard Marshall gaining the ‘Pondasher’ accolade.

Amazing amount

Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs told 4BR: “The ‘Bandsman of the Year’ is voted by the players, and many great performers have held this award.

This year it deservedly went to Gary Curtain; someone who has contributed an amazing amount, not just in concerts, but in some stunning contest winning performances."

No better

He added: “As all brass band loves know, a ‘Pondasher’ is a person who supports Black Dyke Band.

The award was presented to us by Ian and Jan Thompson and recognises a person that goes the extra mile, a person who leads by example. This year there has been no better who has done that than Richard Marshall."
