Foden's Band - RNCM Brass Band Festival
Start time: 7.30pm
RNCM, 124 Oxford Rd, Manchester.
The 2020 RNCM Brass Band Festival promises to be one of the most exciting since its inception as the Festival of Brass at BBC Manchester 30 years ago. We welcome world-class soloists â€" including LSO Principal Trumpet Philip Cobb, tuba virtuoso Les Neish, two of Black Dyke Band’s outstanding soloists Katrina Marzella (baritone horn) and Brett Baker (trombone) â€" plus six leading UK bands, as well as the Greater Manchester Youth Band, not to mention the RNCM’s outstanding brass students. The Festival is also staging a ground-breaking workshop for female conductors to experience working with a top brass band.
The festival will become celebrating the milestone birthdays of two major creators of brass band repertoire, Edward Gregson (75 in July) and Philip Wilby (70 last year). There will also be world and UK premières from young and more seasoned composers, among them Christopher Gunning â€" whose work you may have heard on ITV’s Poirot â€" young artist recitals, panel discussions devoted to repertoire development and gender balance, our trader exhibition, and, we hope, talking points aplenty!
