James Gourlay has been appointed General Director of River City Brass.

The tuba virtuoso has been serving as Music Director since September 2010, and will continue to provide the artistic direction and to serve as Music Director for the ensemble.

New role

In addition his new role will see him supply administrative leadership for management, fundraising, development and educational outreach with Assistant Director Carolyn Tuminella.

Right person

Board Chairman, Dave Wohleber told 4BR: "Dr Gourlay is the right person to lead the organization as the band sets off on its 30th anniversary season. He has already taken the band to new heights."

James Gourlay added: "Thanks to a strong Board of Directors, we feel prepared to strategically grow the River City Brass organization in the next several years."

We have also enhanced our fundraising efforts, producing more proposals to funding agencies, foundations, and corporations."

Staple diet

River City Brass has been a staple of Pittsburgh’s cultural community since 1981, performing an amazingly diverse repertoire from the classical to swing and jazz to the American songbook.
