Coalburn enjoy fruits of success

The Coalburn Band organisation has been looking back on a great 2015 and rewarding those who made it happen...

The four ensembles that form the Coalburn Brass organisation recently came together to celebrate the successes of the past year.

Over a hundred players, parents and supporters filled the Hollandbush Golf Club with the first set awards going to children of the Bronze Band.

Bronze Band

The 'Best Section' went to the cornet team with the 'Band Person of the Year' going to baritone player Rachel Struthers. The 'Most Improved Player' went to trombonist and percussionist Kirsty Traynor, with the band's MD Euan Meikle, also receiving a presentation from the children to thank him for his fantastic leadership.

Intermediate

The Intermediate Band awards saw the 'Most Improved Player' accolade go to solo baritone Jayne Riley with solo horn Ross Lyttle voted 'Players' Player of the Year'. The 'Player of the Year' was awarded to veteran flugel player, Alex Sheridan.

Percussion Academy

The students of the Coalburn Percussion Academy were all presented with certificates of achievement, with the 'Most Improved Player' being Jenny Alexander.

Silver Band

The Silver Band awards saw the 'Best Section' go to the back row cornets and the 'Conductors Award' go to bass trombonist, David Fehilly along with 1st horn, Susan Tough. The 'Band Person of the Year' went to Daniel Beadle for the seventh year in a row and the 'Player of the Year' was won by principal cornet, Calum Blair.

Two very special awards followed with Honorary Life Membership to Gordon Millar and Daniel Beadle.
