The Kippax Band has announced the death of Keith Fairburn.

The Kippax Band has announced the death of Band Secretary Keith Fairburn. He passed away at St. James' Hospital in Leeds following a short illness linked to his ongoing health issues.

Poignant

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It is especially poignant as Keith had decided not to stand for re-election as Band Secretary this year due to his deteriorating health, and his last formal day in office was the day that he died."

Keith was known throughout the banding community not only as a very fine l bass trombone player, but as a bandsman with an industrious allegiance to his band for close on six decades.

He is survived by his wife Aileen, whose commitment to Kippax Band is equally legendary, and their two sons, Lee and Dean, current and former players respectively.

Tireless dedication

Band Chairman Colin Moss added: "We are all devastated by Keith's death and our thoughts are with the family.

Keith's tireless dedication is woven throughout the very fabric of our institution, and his impact on the band can never be underestimated. We can only honour him by recognising his legacy in all our future successes."
