New PLC euph work to help Stroke Association

A brand new euphonium solo by Paul Lovatt-Cooper will aid the ongoing work of The Stroke Association as well as reflect on the centenary of The Great War.

cOMMISION

Composer Paul Lovatt-Cooper has been commissioned to write a new work in support of The Stroke Association by the Clinical Trail Company as part of its 2014/15 Charity Programme initiative.

Euphonium solo

The global clinical research organisation asked Paul to write the solo entitled, ‘The Mist Through Dawn’, for Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West euphonium player Emily Braverman.

The work will have its world premiere, performed by Emily and the band at ‘Crewe Reflects’ — a Commemorative Concert to be held in the town on August 4th, to mark the centenary of the day that Britain declared war on Germany in 1914.

Pleased

Paul, who has recovered from the stroke he suffered last year, told 4BR: "I’ve wanted to compose a lyrical slow melody concert work for euphonium for a long time, and so I was extremely pleased when I was contacted by The Clinical Trial Company to compose this piece."

The composer will be present to hear the first performance, with the band recording the work later this year. The company has also generously agreed to donate £1, for the next 12 months, for each CD sold, to The Stroke Association.

Proud

Company founder Kerri Leeming added: "We have a long history of supporting the local community and we were extremely proud that Paul agreed to take on our commission.

It will enhance our work for our chosen charity, The Stroke Association, and help our team spread important information about strokes to a wider audience."
