World Rankings: End of year update

Time to reflect on who were the biggest winners and losers over the past 12 months.

The final World of Brass — 4barsrest.com Rankings for 2013 show few changes at the very top, with Cory finishing the year in the number one position for a remarkable seventh time in succession.

Dominated

Overseas national championships have dominated the proceedings over the past month, with Burgermusik Luzern (Switzerland), Willebroek (Belgium) and Schoonhoven (Netherlands) all consolidating their ranking positions following their victories, as well as earning their coveted places at next year’s European Championships at Perth.

December is also the time of year that we can reflect on how much bands have achieved in worldwide competition over the past 12 months.

Welsh success

The success enjoyed by Welsh bands in 2013 is well documented, but it is reflected most notably in the increase in Cory and Tredegar’s points over the year, with the latter’s beating the previous record of 654 points set by Fairey in 2010.

Sherborne Town Band

April 24 • Exciting opertunity for a principal cornet player to lead our friendly band. We also would be excited to hear from percussionists with experience in tuned percussion and kit. We are currently in the Championship section and have a busy schedule in 2024.


CLEETHORPES BAND CIO

April 24 • We have lots of cornets and horns but a little thin in the bottom end. Our players are happy to move around to help new players join the band, if you play baritone, euph or bass please give us a try. We rehearse every Sunday and Thursday at 7.30pm


Mereside Brass

April 23 • MERESIDE BRASS (Rudheath,Northwich) are looking for a FRONT ROW CORNET & a 2nd EUPH to complete our line up. We are a friendly 4th Section band with a sensible calendar of jobs and band social events and enjoy occasional contests. Come and give us a try!
