Skelmanthorpe Band has announced the arrival of a quartet of new players.

New players

Connor Lennon comes in on soprano cornet following spells at Bolton Hoover, Poulton le Fylde, Wingates, Wardle & Anderson, and most recently Wakefield Metropolitan, whilst 13 year old Hannah Stell takes on the solo trombone role from the Skelmanthorpe Community Band.

Andy Hunt joins on front row cornet having previously played principal cornet for Garforth Brass and Stanley Newmarket, and the experienced Steve Bey comes in on Eb bass after enjoying spells with the Welsh Guards as well as the Leeds Symphony Orchestra and Yorkshire Imps.

Looking forward

Connor told 4BR: "I'm delighted to be given this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to a long and successful period with the band."

Meanwhile, Hannah has rapidly moved up through the Skelmanthorpe Community Band winning numerous and solo contest and ‘Best Soloist’ awards along the way – including at the Yorkshire Championships last year.

I'm delighted to be given this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to a long and successful period with the bandsoprano player Connor Lennon

Great to join

Andy added: "It’s great to join a friendly and sociable community band, and I look forward to my future with Skelmanthorpe."

A spokesperson added: "We would like to thank outgoing players Mark Wilkinson and Mike Kilmartin for their services to us and extend our gratitude to Les Beevers who has conducted the band at successful concerts at Shelley College and York National Railway Museum."
