The new compositions that will be performed as part of the final of the University of Salford Composers Competition have been announced.

The University of Salford has announced the list of finalists for the Salford International Composers Competition.

40 composers from all corners of the musical globe entered the competition — from the UK and Europe to the United Arab Emirates, Canada, USA and Australia.

Five works

Five works will be considered in the ‘Championship Level’ category with a further two in the ‘Youth Level’ by the respected panel of Dan Price, Paul Lovatt-Cooper and Howard Evans.

The Championship works are from the pens of composers Andrew Wainwright, Daniel Hall, Ludovic Neurhor, Andi Cook and Dorothy Gates with compositions from Dhani Miller and Richard Taylor in the Youth category.

King's Division performances

The works will be rehearsed in a workshop in the presence of the composers and then subsequently performed in a public concert at Peel Hall by the professional British Army Band of the King’s Division conducted by Justin Matthews.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The University would like to thank Dr Richard Rock for his administration of this project and the Band of the King’s Division for their continued partnership with regard to University projects."

The public concert will take place at Peel Hall, The Crescent, Salford, M5 4WT, on Wednesday 12th November 2014 at 1.00pm.
