Redbridge join in British Sea Power critical acclaim

The Redbridge Band is the latest brass band to enjoy a critically acclaimed partnership with the folk rock group British Sea Power.

British Sea Power

Redbridge Band is enjoying a purple patch of both contest and concert success at the moment, with rave reviews in ‘The Independent’ and ‘Evening Standard’ newspapers following their recent appearance alongside indie folk rock group British Sea Power at a sell-out concert at the Barbican in London.

Sea of Brass

It follows the band’s recent success at the Butlins Mineworkers Championship in Skegness under the baton of MD, Alan Duguid, and saw over 1800 fans fully appreciate their contribution to the group’s critically acclaimed ‘Sea of Brass’ tour performances

Redbridge first supported British Sea Power back in October at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea, Kent. However, disappointment followed when the first scheduled date at the Barbican the following evening had to be postponed due to a last minute power cut.

Lights on

Fortunately, on this occasion, the lights stayed on and both ensembles enjoyed several extended standing ovations after a 90 minute programme featuring iconic tracks from British Sea Power's extensive back catalogue, skilfully arranged by MD Peter Wraight, who had also appeared in Skegness conducting the Maynard Ferguson Legacy Big Band with Chad Shoopman.

BBC session

Three days after their appearance at the Barbican, Redbridge again joined Peter and British Sea Power, this time for a live session from the BBC's historic Maida Vale studios in west London.

Three songs from the current Sea of Brass set list were broadcast live on BBC 6 Music as part of the Marc Riley show.

Well worth the wait

A band spokesperson told 4BR: “We were gutted to miss out on playing at the Barbican in October.

However, the reception we received on Saturday was well worth the three month wait and the BBC broadcast on Tuesday was a really exciting thing to be part of. We've had some wonderful comments from fans of BSP from all over the world."

The concert at the Barbican was filmed and will be released by British Sea Power in April as a live DVD and CD double pack.
