2018 Regional tests announced

The five test pieces for the 2018 Regional Championships have been announced by Kapitol Promotions.

Odyssey — Composer: Kevin Norbury

Kevin Norbury's powerful major work was selected as the Championship Section test piece of the 1999 European Brass Band Championships

First Section

Brass Metamorphosis — Composer: James Curnow
Duration 12.38

Theme and set of five variations.

Second Section

Ex Terra Lucem — Composer: Jonathan Bates

Ex Terra Lucem translated means "Out Of The Earth Came Light"
It is the motto for St. Helens in Merseyside.

Third Section

Napoleon on the Alps — Composer: Philip Harper
Duration approx. 10.00

This piece is based on the famous oil painting by Jacques-Louis David, 'Napoleon Crossing the Alps', painted between 1801 and 1805.

Fourth Section

World Tour — Composer: Rodney Newton

A four movement suite:
1. The Leaving of Liverpool
2. Chicago Rag
3. Pacific Paradise
4. Australian Walkabout and Homeward Bound

March 21 • Due to work commitments, a vacancy has arisen for a Tenor Trombone player. First or Second position available. We are a newly promoted Second Section band with a friendly and enthusiastic team.


The GUS Band

March 20 • Following the band's 9th qualification for the National Finals in 10 years the GUS Band seeks applications for both a soprano and a solo cornet player. The band rehearses in Northampton on Monday and Thursday evenings.


Amesbury Town Band

March 20 • Players and beginners of any standard are always warmly welcomed especially solo cornets, horns, trombones and percussionists to help out existing players. Feel free to drop in even if you just fancy a blow or want to try another instrument
