To Hull and back after 26 years for regional champion

After over a quarter of a century, the EYMS Band reverts back to its former identity — closing its sponsorship chapter on a fantastic high in Durham on the weekend.

26 years of support ended on a wonderful high at Durham on the weekend.

The East Yorkshire Motor Services Band ensured that a wonderful 26 year partnership with their sponsors ended on an appropriate celebratory last chord on the weekend when they claimed the North of England Regional title in Durham for the first time since 2009.

From 1st April the band will revert to its original name and will once again become known as the City of Hull Band.

Quarter of a century

Formed in 1989, the band was renamed East Yorkshire Motor Services in 1992 when it secured a sponsorship agreement with the EYMS Group who had supported them during their first years of emerging success under the baton of Robert Childs.

The partnership went on to last over a quarter of century, enabling them to develop as an organisation and provide numerous affordable concerts for local organisations thanks to the financial assistance it received from the company.

Dove House Hospice and the local branch of the NSPCC were just two of the many local charities that benefitted during this time.

The formal sponsorship agreement with EYMS Group came to an end in April 2018 prior to its commercial sale. However, former EYMS owner, Peter Shipp remains a proud Band President and is still a regular concert attendee and staunch supporter of the band.

Christening

They will now compete at the Royal Albert Hall in October as the City of Hull Band, whilst the first official engagement under their new identity will come at the forthcoming christening of the Hull trawler 'Kirkella on the Greenwich Ship Tier on the River Thames before they entertain guest on board the famous 'Cutty Sark' tea clipper.
