The Eagley Band will be providing the musical entertainment for a very special former pupil of Bolton School later this month, when the band will help provide a warm welcome for the actor Sir Ian McKellen CH CBE.
Renowned for his immense versatility playing roles from King Lear to Gandalf, he was born in Burnley in 1939 and has been touring with his acclaimed one-man 80th birthday show this year which has sold out theatres across the country.
On Friday evening, May 24th, Sir Ian will be the guest of honour at a Gala Dinner organised by Bolton School on the eve of his birthday, and as part of the celebration he will be entertained by an hour long set performed by Eagley.
He is reported to have said that he considers Bolton and Bolton School in particular as his acting home and will perform at Bolton Town Hall the following night.
MD Chris Wormald was approached some months ago to see if the band could play at the event, as the actor professes to enjoy brass and wind bands — picking Sousa's 'Stars & Stripes' as one of his recordings for the popular Desert Island Discs radio show.
