Tredegar Band will showcase their BrassPass 'Band of the Year' programme in Birmingham on Wednesday evening when they share the stage with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band, Dr Stephen Allen and the renowned pianist Conal Bembridge-Sayers.

Under MD Ian Porthouse, the Welsh Champion will perform 'Phenomena Fanfare' by Jacob Larsen as well as Wilfred Heaton's 'Toccata — Oh, The Blessed Lord', the flugel solo 'Eyes of a Child' featuring Danny Winder and their own-choice test-piece selection of Oliver Waespi's, 'As if a voice were in them...'

The concert at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's Bradshaw Hall (Wednesday 7.30pm) will also feature a rare performance of Edward Gregson's 'Concertante for Piano and Brass Band'.

Musical significance

Speaking to 4BR, Ian Porthouse said; "We are delighted to welcome both Conal and Stephen to the Conservatoire as well as feature two works of such musical significance.

Performing our 'Band of the Year' programme in these circumstances also puts the spotlight on us, so I hope as many people come along to hear a great selection of repertoire."

In addition, the Conservatoire Brass Band will perform 'Paganini Variations', with Dr Stephen Allen giving a presentation on the historical importance of Elgar's 'The Severn Suite' before it opens the evening.

Time and place:

Wednesday 19th June (7.30pm)
