The death has been announced of West Wycombe Band stalwart Ken Stacey.

His 60-year career saw him play with the Ercol Band and, latterly, with fellow Buckinghamshire outfits Ellesborough Silver and Vintage Brass, but it was with West Wycombe that he will most be remembered.

National success

His time there saw him play cornet as well as baritone, but it was as Resident conductor and solo euphonium that saw him collect a Fourth Section National Championship title success in 1973.

Ken's other banding passion Brighouse & Rastrick Band, with his son, Lyndon, the proud President of the newly crowned National Champion.

Love of Brighouse

He told 4BR: "Dad's love of B&R began back in the late 1960s — and he even named me after his euphonium hero Lyndon Baglin.

While obviously devastated by his wholly unexpected passing, I take solace from his joy at our recent win at the Royal Albert Hall, which he celebrated as enthusiastically as any of us."
