Rankings: October update

Foden's take top spot for the first time since 2003.

The consistency of Foden’s Band over the past two major contests sees the Cheshire-based band back at the top of the World of Brass—4barsrest Rankings for the first time since 2003.

Black Dyke’s 21st victory at the National Final in the Royal Albert Hall last Saturday ensures that the Yorkshire giant will end the year in fourth spot, but the top three will fight it out for end-of-year honours at Brass in Concert, at which Foden’s, Grimethorpe and Cory all have a chance of becoming the number one ranked band for 2008.

Top 10 bands

1. Foden's
2. Grimethorpe Colliery
3. Cory
4. Black Dyke
5. Brighouse and Rastrick
6. Leyland
7. Carlton Main Frickley Colliery
8. Fairey
9. Brass Band
10. Desford Colliery

The other contests taking place since the last update were:

Ammanford—won by Burry Port
Bolsover Contest—won by Derwent Brass
Swiss Open—won by Brass Band 13 Etoiles
Hardraw Scar—won by Shepherd Group

National 1st Section—won by Beaumaris
National 2nd Section—won by Point of Ayr
National 3rd Section—won by Wellington (Telford)

With the busy month of November seeing a number of continental national championships taking place, we expect to see quite a bit of change between now and the end of the year, but the next update will follow the Brass in Concert Championships.
