Yeovil take Wessex Crown

Yeovil Band under Philip Bailey won the recent Wessex Association contest in Poole

 

The Wessex Brass Band Association held their 46th Winter Contest on December 1st; at Poole Arts Centre. There were 27 entries in 5 sections all adjudicated by Nigel Seaman. Presentations were made by Alan Blair chief executive of Wessex Heartbeat a charity from the area set up to fund development into heart disease and who were the recipients of the evening concert organised by David Hills featuring the Williams Fairy Band.

Results were :-

Further awards were made to the youngest player in Sections Two/Three and Youth which were donated by Bournemouth Concert Brass, Mrs Cherowbrier, David Hills and the WBBA which consisted of a weeks course at the annual Wessex Youth Band Course and a days Masterclass with Grimethorpe Colliery UK Coal Band on Sunday 19th May 2002.

A 50 years service award to banding was made to Ron Bligh of Woodfalls Concert.

Further events planned are a Regionals 2002 Masterclass with Steve Sykes at The Downton Bandroom on the 19th January 2002 when both players and conductors will make up a composite band to perform and work through the regional Test Pieces. Ripon City band

June 17 • Ripon City Band require EEb Bass, Bb Cornet and Percussion (Kit and/or tuned). We are a welcoming First Section band with a varied programme of engagements and contests. We rehearse in Ripon on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7.40.


Glossop Old Band

June 16 • Glossop Old Band is looking to appoint a new Musical Director. We are a friendly first section band with some contesting and a good mix of concerts. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings 8.00-10.00pm at our Band Club at Derby Street, Glossop, SK13 8LP
