All together in Unison.

Unison Kinneil take the honours north of the border in the Whitburn Contest. We have the details with a full report to follow.

Whitburn Contest — 3 November 2001

This year's Whitburn Invitation Contest was won by Unison Kinneil conducted by Glasgow based Irish Trumpeter Eric Dunlea. Their programme consisted of Fest Musik der Stadt Wien by Richard Strauss, Share my Yoke, Russian Sailor's Dance, My Laggan Love and Old Man River.

Adjudicator Malcolm Brownbill pinpointed their consistency of performance throughout which had been the feature which most distinguished them from the other top bands.

Kinneil's closest rivals, Bo'ness & Carriden conducted by Tony Swainson, took 2nd place with pre contest favourites Kirkintilloch and Allan Ramsay having to settle for third prize.

The contest was held in St Kentigern's Academy in Blackburn for the first time as there is refurbishment work taking place in the normal venue at Whitburn. Nevertheless, the Whitburn Band management were delighted with the new venue and with the excellent entry of 22 bands which had made the contest the most successful ever.
