What a note to go out on

The Batty family have the last say on the Grimey affair

I would like to reply to the Batty statement.

Thank-you to the sincere players of Grimethorpe UK Coal band who I am sure are really upset by the way Roy was treated last week. It was probably as much a shock to them as it was for us, but it still does not put right a wrong which should not have happened.

I still do not know the reason why Roy was sacked. He is still a very good player, I can understand the band wanting younger players but Roy has always said he would step down for a younger and better player. If only they had talked it over with Roy first he would have retired with dignity. I am very upset and disgusted by the way Roy has been treated, he has been dedicated to the band all these years he deserves better, all the happy memories have been taken away by one bad move.
What a note to go out on.

Patricia Woodrow (Roy's Partner)

4BarsRest Comment:

The statement was sent to 4BR by Patricia Woodrow. We have never made any approach to her or the family concerning their comments on the matter.

Grimethorpe are a fine band with a good reputation for being well run and for treating their players fairly.

They have had a number of player and administrative changes recently and this may have contributed to the unfortunate way in which the departure of a player who has given so much to the band over 42 years was handled.

We are sure though that the band is immensly grateful for all Roy Batty has done for them over the years and will we are sure, endeavour to mark the departure in a fitting and worthy manner.
