4BR Best Sellers 2002

Here we are pop pickers—the top 10 4BR best selling CD’s of the year from our shopping site.

Some great CD’s from some great bands and ensembles. If you haven’t got them in your collection yet, go and treat yourselves for Christmas—while stocks last!!

1. The Regionals 2003
Doyen Recordings—CD 143

The greatest aid to sight reading since invention of the metronome. Why struggle when you can fork out £11.75 and impress your MD with your ability to know what your part goes like—even if you can’t play it yet.

2. The 2002 European Championships
Doyen Recordings—CD 136

Relive all the thrills (and spills) of the Euro weekend in Brussels. Great playing from all concerned—especially YBS on ballistic form and even the oddest euphonium rendition of Carnival of Venice you are ever likely to hear!

3. Call of the Cossacks
Doyen Recordings—CD 138

Just when you thought there couldn’t be any more rhyming titles left in world, Dyke find a corker from the pen of Peter Graham and enjoy themselves to the full. Crack open the vodka and enjoy!

4. Hymn of the Highlands
Polyphonic Recordings—CD QPRL 214D

YBS don kilts and sporrans and produce a stunning musical portrait of the highlands of Scotland. This time you’ve got to crack open a single malt and enjoy, whilst both Dyke and YBS give Whitsun Wakes two very different airings. Which one is best?

5. The Heaton Collection
SP&S Recordings—CD SP&S 158

Two great bands pay homage to the genius of Wilfred Heaton. A double CD that is the rarest of treats—Dyke and the ISB on top form and music to cherish.

6. Epic Brass—Highlights of the 2001 National Finals Gala Concert
SP&S Recordings—CD 153

A return to the good old days—a full Albert Hall complete with the new National Champions and the finest band in the Salvation Army world. All this and Roger Webster and David Daws sparkling like the stars they are and Dykes winning performance of “Albion”.

7. The Big Picture
International Publications Ltd—CD 9718A

YBS at the Saturday morning pictures so sit down, sit back and munch your way through a selection of all the soundtracks of the latest films. The vocals on the Flintstones alone is worth every penny—absolutely bonkers!

8. Brass in Concert
Doyen Recordings—CD 139

Fodens showcase their considerable talents with a CD that sees them cover just about every bit of the brass band entertainment programme you could wish for. All this and Glyn Williams out doing Roy Castle for the number of musical instruments he can play in 5 minutes.

9. Baltic Brass
Deux—Elles Recordings—CD DXL 1042

John Wallace and friends show that you can’t beat the good old ‘uns. Music from the 19th century played on period instruments—simply brilliant.

10. Overtures
Egon Recordings—CD SFZ 109

Fodens take the time machine back to our love of orchestral arrangements, but give them a thoroughly good spanking with some brilliant performances of some classic favourites.
