Glossop Old and New for Xmas

Glossop announce Xmas series of charity concerts — we have the details of some great nights to listen out for.

During the festive season Glossop Old Band and friends aim to raise lots of cash for worthy charities.

Firstly the band is playing carols in Glossop market on Saturday 14th December whilst the HSBC bank collects money for a local charity. What ever is collected on the day is matched by HSBC and is a way for the band to put something back into the community.

On Sunday 29th December the All Star Band will be performing their annual concert in the bandroom at 8pm (doors open at 7pm) and this year's charity is the Patient Amenity Fund, Ward 27, Manchester Royal Infirmary where Phil Fox, former player with the band, is currently undergoing treatment. The band consists of players from Faireys, Fodens, Grimethorpe amongst others. This concert is always well received and it is advisable to book tickets in advance from the bandroom priced at £5.00

Sunday 5th January 2003 sees the "No-Stars" Brass performing at the bandroom at 8pm (doors open at 7pm) raising funds for Age Concern. The name "no stars" was started by Janet Lewis (Glossop band's principal cornet) many years ago when she played for Dobcross Band. This was originally a band of local players formed to play at Dobcross Band club for charity the week after the All Star band performed at Glossop. This has now be resurrected to play in the bandroom and features Alan Morrison on Principal cornet, players from Versatile Brass, Sellers International, , Grimethorpe, YBS, Besses, Glossop Band and Leyland. Entrance is on the evening at £1.50 for members and £3.00 for non-members.
