Christmas Concert is a ‘Sell Out’

Verwood Concert Brass sell out their annual concert.

 

Verwood Memorial Hall was bursting at the seams on the evening of Saturday 11th December when local Band, Verwood Concert Brass, performed their annual Christmas Concert to a capacity audience! At one point the Training Band had to be moved from their normal position in front of the stage to allow extra rows of seats to be put out to accommodate everyone.

During the first half the Band performed a variety favourites including ‘White Christmas’, ‘Stop the Cavalry’ and the beautiful ‘Carol of the Shepherds’. The only non-seasonal number was ‘Bless this House’ which was dedicated to the concert’s sponsors, local estate agents Irving and Sons. This gave young cornet player Andrew Hancock, (pictured), his first chance to perform a solo with the band. Andrew is 16 years old and attends Ringwood School. He has been playing since he was 11 and also plays both trumpet and percussion.

The second half opened with the ever-popular ‘Potty Panto’ performed by the Training Band and narrated with great humour by Jenny Baxendale and Chris Lockyer. This was followed by more Christmas classics such as ‘When a Child is Born’ and ‘The Snowman’. There were also plenty of carols and the audience joined in the singing with gusto.

This hugely successful concert follows hot on the heels of Verwood Concert Brass’s recent Contest wins at both the South West and Wessex Brass Band Championships. Over Christmas members of the band will be seen out and about playing carols and collecting for this year’s adopted charity, ‘Tender loving Care’ who help disabled children in the area.
