Wilsden celebrates the season in aid of hospice

The Wilsden Band held its successful Annual Christmas Concert last weekend raising money for the local hospice at the same time.

Saturday 16th December saw rthe Wilsden Band play its annual Christmas Concert in aid of Manorlands Hospice (Sue Ryder Care) to a capacity audience. Even extra seats were called for and eagerly snapped up.

Dynamic MD

Dynamic new MD Ken Lee, in only his second major concert with the band, certainly brought about plenty of Christmas magic with his music selection and direction of this revitalised Wilsden outfit.

The programme included Musical Sleigh Rides, Songs and Carols were all part of ‘Christmas is Coming all done in Wilsden Band's own style.

The band items were interspersed with songs from the local young singing group and Julia Williams wonderful renditions of O Holy Night and Ava Maria.

Playful duet

Principal cornet Shelley Hodgson was joined by Ken Lee for a memorable 10 out of 10 performance of the cornet duet playmates.

The speed at which Ken conducted the Can Can would have provided enough energy to power Santa’s sleigh, and make Rudolph and his friends redundant.

The show ended with a much called for encore, Born Free, played in a truly full bodied way by a band enjoying its playing, and does it show!

The audience were in fine voice for their part of the carol singing accompanied by the band.

They were also in good voice in showing their appreciation for the best yet concert Ken Lee and hisBand have performed. Not one member of the audience moved, as they stood and applauded the band, and continued doing so as Ken made his exit. Next year already booked and in the diary.
