Eikanger celebrate Xmas in music

The Eikanger Band has had a busy time celebrating Christmas in a most musical fashion.

Eikanger

It has been a busy Christmas period all over the banding world it seems with the Eikanger-Bjørsvik band performing two concerts and arranging two parties, all in one weekend before Christmas Day!

On the Friday before Christmas, Howard Snell and the band performed in the lovely, medieval Fana church. On the programme for the night were 'Cloudcatcher Fells', 'Festival Music', extracts from 'Romeo and Juliet', two Grieg pieces and 'Passacaglia'.

Magical time

The next day the band held its traditional christmas party at the band house whilst all the children associated with the band had their own party, complete with christmas carols and tree. They of course got to meet a certain Santa ClausEikanger Band

The next day the band held its traditional christmas party at the band house whilst all the children associated with the band had their own party, complete with christmas carols and tree. They of course got to meet a certain Santa Claus.

Finally, on the Sunday before the big day, a group from the band played at the feast of light in Knarvik, the town where Eikanger is situated. It proved to be a magical time and a fitting start of the Christmas holiday.

Honorary Prize

Meanwhile resident conductor Reid Gilje received the Eikanger-Bjørsvik band's honorary prize for his commitment to the band throughout 2006. The prize was presented at the Eikanger-Bjørsvik band's Christmas party on Saturday where no one present disagreed that he was a worthy winner. His skillful arrangements and proper band instruction has strengthened the band's repertoire and level of musicianship. As Reid Gilje could not be there to receive the prize himself, he thanked the audience via video link from Stavanger.
