When the North American Brass Band Association added a new "Youth Open" section to the North American Championships, that opened the door for the formation of the Triangle Youth Brass Ensemble.
The Triangle Youth Brass Band (under the direction of Tony Granados) has consistently flourished with over 40 players annually and 4 first place finishes in the Youth Section since it began competing in 2001.
This year, the Triangle Youth Brass Band will be joined by the Triangle Youth Brass Ensemble as part of the Youth Program for the Triangle Brass Band. The Triangle Youth Brass Band was reduced in size to a traditional British band size and the new Brass Ensemble is doing well (it is sitting at about 50 brass players).
While not performing on Cornets and Tenor Horns, the Youth Ensemble is set up in the British tradition and will play on trumpets and french horns until suitable instruments may be acquired.
The Brass Ensemble will travel, with the Youth Band, to NABBA and play in the newly formed Youth Open section. Additioally, they will be splitting two concerts with the TYBB. The co-conductor of the TYBE is Paul Pietrowski, a Master's Student in Trombone at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and former member of the James Madison University Brass Band.
