Dodworth round off 2006 in style

Yorkshire Champions round off their year by making the BBC weep!

Dodworth

The Dodworth Band ended their year on fine form with the BBC Radio Sheffield Carol Service from St. Margarets church in Swinton recently.

The concert was a huge success, featuring many well know presenters, the Bell Canto Choral group, organ and with the band receiving very favourable comments.

I would find it very hard to pick out any individual piece because they were all so good. ...the strains of 'Joy to the World' went through my whole being — I could have wept because the sound was just so wonderfulBBC Producer, Elizabeth Hampshire

In fact BBC music director Elizabeth Hampshire wrote to the band: "Just a little note to convey my very grateful thanks to you and to every member of the band for your superb performance yesterday. The music was just wonderful. I would find it very hard to pick out any individual piece because they were all so good. When you started 'Christmas Festival' the strains of 'Joy to the World' went through my whole being — I could have wept because the sound was just so wonderful."

The concert ends a year that has seen the band perform exceptionally well and MD Eliot Darwin was recently presented with a Chippendale Salver for all his commitment, enthusiasm and dedication on behalf of the band. The band were also nominated as one of the 4BR Bands of the Year in the Lower Section, whilst the MD himself was nominated in the prestigious Conductor of the Year category.
