New BTM role for Davoren

Tom Davoren resigns from full time MD role at BTM, but continues with musical connection.

Davoren

4BR has been informed that after a successful three years together Tom Davoren has resigned from his commitments as full time Musical Director of the BTM Band.

Success

Tom took over the reins at BTM in 2008, aged just 21, steering them through one of the most consistent periods in its history.

Their relationship has been particularly successful in entertainment contesting, winning the Welsh Open and Wychavon Festival, whilst under his direction the band has attained its highest world ranking position.

Redefine

Despite this, Tom’s increasingly successful career outside the band has made it difficult to fulfil the role of a full time MD. Taking this into account he has decided to redefine his relationship with them.

From January Tom will take up a new position as Associate Professional Conductor and Composer in Residence, stepping away from a full time role and working with BTM towards more specific projects.

New partnership

He told 4BR: "I’ve had a great three years at BTM. Although I’m sad that my career outside the band is taking me away from my role as MD, I am looking forward to our new musical partnership."

Contribution

BTM Band Manager Jeff Hutcherson added: "Tom's tenure as full time MD has been extremely exciting and his achievements speak for themselves.

The contribution he has made to BTM and wider banding in composing new works that are both exciting and enjoyable to both players and audiences alike is recognised and appreciated by everyone at the band."

He concluded: "We are a band that has taken chances on youth and believe that this can only help to preserve the future of brass bands. The movement needs such talents as Tom Davoren and BTM are excited to continue to support his progress."
