1st: 200 Guineas
2nd: 150 Guineas
3rd: 75 Guineas
4th: 50 Guineas

The youngest player, and only girl at the contest was 10 year old Mary Bailey with the Woodfall Band.

At 4.45pm the announcement of the results and the winning band playing a piece of its own choice was played on BBC Radio.

1953 was the second year in succession that the contest took place at the Empress Hall, Earles Court.

The contest started at 10.30am

Witney Town Band

June 19 • A friendly 4th section band based in West Oxfordshire require Front row cornet and Second Horn. We rehearse from 7:30 - 9.30pm pm every Tuesday at Witney Methodist Church, High Street, Witney, Oxfordshire, OX28 6HG. .
