The band was established in 1999 when four Salvation Army churches from the southern part of Greater Stockholm were merged to form the present Stockholm South Corps. This included the merging of the two bands Stockholm 7 and Stockholm 3. Both these bands had an impressive heritage and tradition stretching back over 100 years. This fine legacy provided the new band with much to live up to in terms of faithful service both for the Salvation Army and God´s kingdom.
In addition to the domestic service the bands toured regularly abroad with Stockholm 7 starting in the late 40´s with tours to Switzerland, Germany, England and later on to USA twice. Example of later tours by Stockholm 7 to England were in 1974 participating in the farewell of General Erik Wickberg at Royal Festival Hall and at the same tour visiting this tours hosting Kettering Salvation Army, in 1991 at Hendon Highlights and in 1995 at Butlins Salvation Army Camp in Skegness.
Stockholm 3 Band did a lot of domestic tours but also abroad to Finland.
During recent decades the Stockholm South Band has shown itself to be a worthy representative for Salvation Army bands. In addition to providing meaningful contribution to the weekly worship services at the Corps the band has also been busy with many performances both in concert halls and other churches.
The Stockholm South band has toured abroad to countries such as Norway, Denmark and England last time in year 2012.
Under the leadership of Tobias Jutestål, himself a professional percussionist graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the band remains a vital part of the corps ministry and makes the Salvation Army present and visible in the local community.
