Queen listens in to Stalybridge

Her Majesty could well be listening to a Stalybridge Band CD in her Rolls Royce it seems...

In a report in the local Tameside Reporter newspaper it has been revealed that Stalybridge Old Band has received a letter from Her Majesty The Queen after sending her a CD to mark their bicentenary celebrations.

Delighted

Jennifer Gordon-Lennox, Lady-in Waiting, wrote to the band on behalf of the Queen in which she stated: "The Queen was pleased to hear that the band recently represented the United Kingdom at the Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony in Ypres. Her Majesty is delighted to accept the CD of music you have kindly given."

Margaret Lee, Stalybridge Old Band's Librarian told the Tameside Reporter Newspaper that: "The band is delighted."

New music

Meanwhile, the band will have a new piece of music to commemorate their bi-centenary.

Composer Rob Collinson has written a short work depicting the local Stalybridge area and the piece will be included in a new CD the band will be making later in the year.

Rob recently returned from America where he was the guest of The Sheldon Theatre Band based in Red Wing, Minnesota, having been commissioned to compose a new work for that band.
