Beaumaris retain top status

Following their win at the recent North Wales Championship, Beaumaris end the year as the top band in the north of the Principality.

Beaumaris

Beaumaris Band recently retained their status as the premier band in North Wales with a stunning performance to regain the North Wales Championship at Mold on Saturday.

Blitz

MD Gwyn Evans was keen to use the contest to really push the band and chose 'Blitz' by Derek Bourgeois as their test piece.

Gwyn told 4BR: "The band have worked extremely hard for the last 3 weeks on this piece and this performance has certainly given the band a boost in preparation for next years contests."

Praise

Adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth praised the band on tightness of ensemble as well as individual performances, especially that of principal cornet Nicholas Hughes.

Success also came for the Beaumaris Youth Band, under MD Bari Gwilliam, with a performance of Peter Graham's, 'Alloway Tales'. Principal cornet Bronwen Evans was awarded the Best Soloist prize.

The senior band have had a busy few months recently, which included a sell out concert at York Minster with the Penrhyn Male Voice Choir, as well as recording sessions for a new CD to be released next year.
