Corus of approval

The Corus (Port Talbot) Band has enjoyed a weekend of success under MD, Colin Hogg.

It proved to be a good weekend for the Corus (Port Talbot) Band after they claimed a podium finish at the SEWBBA Contest in Blaenavon and followed it up with a quick trip to GBBA contest in Coleford on the Sunday.

Stiff opposition

There the band beat off stiff opposition in Section C to win both the 'March' contest and the Own choice section with their performance of 'Music for a Festival', with MD Colin Hogg taking the prize as winning conductor.

It is really encouraging to think that just over 2 years ago we were down to about 6 players and now we can give 2nd and 3rd Section bands a run for their moneyMD, Colin Hogg

No rest

There was no time for the band to rest on their laurels though as it was straight into the B Section hwere they came 2nd in the 'March' contest and runner up with their extra performance of 'A Salford Sinfonietta'.

Encouraging

Colin told 4BR: "I'm over the moon with the band's weekend work. To get two test pieces up to scratch takes a lot of hard work from the players, so I'm really pleased for them. It is really encouraging to think that just over 2 years ago we were down to about 6 players and now we can give 2nd and 3rd Section bands a run for their money."

The band also took the opportunity to thank Luke Jenkins for helping them out. Luke, who plays for Goodwick Band, traveled from Fishguard for rehearsals.
