New roots for Riverside

The NASUWT Riverside Band will be setting down new roots in the next few months — thanks to some good financial news.

Riverside

The NASUWT Riverside Band (Chester le Street) is going back to its roots — thanks to some wonderful financial news...

Roots

The band which was originally known as Pelton Fell Methodist Band is heading back to its roots- moving from it's current home of Durham County Cricket Club Riverside to Pelton Fell Park.

£62,000 has been raised through the amazing efforts of Band Chairman Tom Moffat to create a purpose built rehearsal facility and work is currently in progress to make sure the band can move in around March of this year.

Any help from sponsors would be gratefully accepted! We believe we are doing our bit to secure a brass band future in the area and that is something we are all very proud ofBand spokesperson

Further money

However, the band is looking to raise a further £25,000 to complete and equip the buiding and have been busy with local fund raising events such as a 'Sponsors Honours Board', which is already proving to be a great success.

The move will secure the bands future, as well as providing an exciting new home for their growing youth band which last year took part in the Regional Championships for the very first time.

Delighted

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are so delighted about the move, especially as it gives us a home for the future and means that we can develop out own players through the Youth Band. Any help from sponsors would be gratefully accepted! We believe we are doing our bit to secure a brass band future in the area and that is something we are all very proud of."
