Blackburn & Darwen celebrate Guild success

Blackburn & Darwen has started their 2010 season with a morale boosting win at the Guild Hall.

Blackburn and Darwen

Blackburn & Darwen have started their 2010 season in fine style after posting a victory in the Championship Section at the Brass at the Guild Contest in Preston on the weekend.

Signings

The win comes on the back of recent signings Jim Bone on bass trombone, formerly of Scottish Co-op and David Clegg on Eb Bass from YBS.

The band has also secured the services of cornet star Iain Culross for the forthcoming Area Contest in Blackpool and hope to secure his services in the long term. All three players were part of the bands winning team on Sunday.

Although this is a huge result for the band we have a long way to go and I am sure Nick will firmly ground us as we now start to prepare 'English Heritage' for BlackpoolChairman, David Macleod

Overjoyed

Band Chairman David MacLeod told 4BR: "I'm overjoyed with the band's success. This is down to the happy band atmosphere and the hard work and dedication put in by players and the direction of MD Nick Sheppard."

He added: "Although this is a huge result for the band we have a long way to go and I am sure Nick will firmly ground us as we now start to prepare 'English Heritage' for Blackpool."
