The Shepherd Group Band has announced the appointment of former Grimethorpe tuba player Richard Wilton as their new Musical Director.

Success

Richard comes to the band following success with his previous band, South Milford.

Richard returned to his banding roots at South Milford Brass (formerly Hambleton Brass) in 2005, and after a happy and successful period, culminating in becoming North of England Champions in 2008 and 2009, Richard is now looking forward to a long and happy association with Shepherd Group Brass.

With these new signings and the enthusiasm and experience of our new Musical Director, we are hopeful that the upcoming Area Contest will be a successful oneShepherd Group Brass

Confident

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are confident that his personality and musical ability will help take the band forward and allow us to continue doing what we do best – entertain people with fine music."

Signings

The band have also signed Mark Durham on principal Cornet and Sharon Fallon on solo cornet after a well-deserved break from playing. Dave Dunbirch returns on tuba.

The spokesperson added: "With these new signings and the enthusiasm and experience of our new Musical Director, we are hopeful that the upcoming Area Contest will be a successful one."
