The band provided the accompaniment for euphonium player Iain McDonald who gave the recital as part of his BA Applied Music degree course. The band was conducted by MD, Michael Fowles.

The demanding programme for Iain consisted of eight well-known solos including works by Curnow, Horovitz and Rimmer.

Course Director Gerry Rossi told 4BR that this was the first time that a full brass band had appeared at the university in this particular role.

The soloist was a pupil of the band’s principal euphonium player, Alison Bonnar, and gave his recital in front of a sizeable and enthusiastic audience consisting of relatives, friends, fellow students and band supporters.
