David Hatton has been appointed the new conductor of Phoenix Brass.

The Crewkerne based band weighed up a number of candidates before choosing the 29 year old who learnt his musical craft in South Wales.

After completing a BTEC in Performing Arts he joined the Army as a musician, studying at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, before taking a posting in Dorset and playing with the Weymouth Concert and Yeovil bands.

A spokesperson for Phoenix told 4BR: "Building on his own experience as a player, David wants to put into practice what he has learnt over the years. As much as he will be leading the band, the players are all experienced in their own right and will be supporting him."
