Malcolm in the middle at Felling

The Felling Band has appointed Steve Malcolm as their new MD.

Felling

The Felling Band has announced the appointment of Stephen Malcolm, formerly resident MD with Reg Vardy Band as their new Musical Director.

New players

The appointment comes on the back of the news of a number of recent signings of new players.

Will Mitton joins as assistant principal cornet from Bon Accord, Andy Hall on first horn from Reg Vardy, and Paul Robinson and Phil Rosier from Fishburn Band on bass trombone and BBb bass. Formerly Fishburn’s MD, Phil Rosier has also been appointed associate conductor and band development manager.

Moves within the band include Trevor Winch’s return to the solo horn seat, John Oates to principal baritone and rising cornet star Kate Malcolm to the flugel horn chair.

In addition, the band has secured a permanent bandroom after many years of searching, with excellent acoustics and storage facilities, whilst a new committee has been successful in securing much needed band funding through a number of grant aid applications.

We are delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced and well regarded conductor as Stephen, who is building on firm foundations laid by our previous MD, Graeme TindallFelling Band

Delighted

Band Manager Phil Rutherford told 4BR: "We are delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced and well regarded conductor as Stephen, who is building on firm foundations laid by our previous MD, Graeme Tindall."

He added: "Stephen has restructured the band with some very fine players, which I’m confident will result in further contest success for the band in the future."
